Thrifty Thursday

Ok this week has been a little busy, but I did want to share with you a little something we did for our trip to save a bunch of money.  Before we left I sat down and planned out all of our meals.  I made a lasagna, egg salad, and bought some tuna lunch kits.  Also we had lots of snacks and drinks.  We knew that being around family, we’d probably go out to eat or have a family dinner.

It was also nice that we had leftover snacks which I gave to my aunt who has kids the same ages as our kids.  We only had one cooler, the rest was non-perishable.  It was a little more work than buying when we got there, but we only bought food there 2 times.  Thanks to grandma making some killer food, we had our lasagna left and we ate to for dinner when we got home.  It was very nice not to have to cook  after a long drive.

So, from now on I think we’ll be bring our food wherever we go…even just a day trip.

I completely agree! Sometimes eating out is fun on a trip, but sometimes it just feels like such a waste of money (and I tend to be a food poisoning magnet, so there’s one more reason to bring my own).
I’ve found that even if I don’t make something ahead to take, it’s still more economical to run by Wal-Mart and pick up some sort of “convenience food” as opposed to going out.
